Usefulness of Major Course Assignments
In both of the major course assignments I worked with people I never met before and I had to communicate in more ways than just face to face contact. This was a little different for me because normally I am a people person and I like to work in group atmospheres. However, these times around I was anxious and did not know what to expect with my group partners. The projects forced me to cooperate with people I had never met before and produce quality work, even though we were limited with a few meetings. Furthermore, it taught me to be a good team member. Because in order for our group to come up with a quality paper, it required everyone to do their part. Lastly, it made me improve my communication skills. Because in order for our group to even be able to meet, it took communication skills to figure out a convenient time and place for everyone. This was tough because we had to do it all through email and text message. Luckily, I had a great team to work with which made it all an even better experience.

Your description of what you thought was useful about doing the first two major assignments was exactly how I felt. I thought that the whole purpose of this assignment was to learn to work as a group. I felt awkward the first time I met the group since we’ve never met in person before but once we started our work, we just got down to business. I also felt like it was hard to get quality work as well, since we couldn’t meet all the time. I also like how you described how working with your group required good communication skills. I feel like that was the hardest thing for our group to overcome with our first assignment.

ReplyDeleteI agree it could be quite challenging to work in groups, especially when there is not much direct face to face contact. It is sometimes rather difficult to keep in contact and updated via email, text, etc. because we are used to working in groups in an actual classroom with a professor's presence. Having an online class with a group project required more work to meet each other and more effort to communicate. But I believe having cooperating and communicative group members, the result of the assignment would work out well. I'm glad that you were in my group and happy with our first assignment results!
Hi there! Nice posts! I felt weird meeting the people in my group at first as well. Even though we comment each other’s blogs and everything, we never actually have seen each other’s faces. Before I met up with my group, I had this image in my mind of meeting these people and how awkward it would be. Thankfully it was not weird and we finished the assignment on the most part. It was very hard for my group to meet as well and for the longest thing we were trying to figure out when most of us was free to meet. But we learned to make the best use of our own time and split the project up and put it together later.
